The Alchemist
The first time I tried reading it I enjoyed it. Than, I started thinking that it was confusing. Than I put the book down for weeks, until I realized that school was starting in a few days and I needed it read by then. The book, all in all, was full of very helpful life tips. I just think I would have taken more from it if I had read it on my own terms instead of it being a school book. The curiosity of hat his treasure would be and here exactly his journey lead him was the most intriguing about it. Suspense and curiosity are the best features of a book, in my opinion. Although, it must be written well to make it the best part. I will say this book was written just fine, not my favorite or the best, but alright.

Anthem
At first this book confused me, as i'm sure it did for many people. Mrs. Garza strongly suggested we read it as a class and not on our own. I'm very glad I listened to her advice. The fact that a society could so cruel to take away one's own self baffles me. I have used a singular personal pronoun eight times in four sentences. I don't think it has to do with me being selfish, rather just stating an opinion of an an individual. Through out the whole book I kept waiting for that moment when the society made sense, but that moment never came. I realized that all that talk about the "great we" was just a bunch of crud they gave to make an excuse for basically human slaves. They needed the work done and done right, so if they constantly had people comparing themselves to others then they wouldn't get there work done. They'd always complain about someone's job being easier or better and that they wanted to do theirs in stead of their own.

Harrison Bergeron
That picture reminds me of the purge, because of the weird masks. This story was a heart breaker for me. The poor mother and father can't even remember their son being taken or shot on live television. It's not their fault because they are not permitted to remember. Those people are like mind controlled robots. They are given handicaps so they are weaker or more dumb. In stead of working on making the weaker and dumb more strong and smart, they do the complete opposite. Who is this "they" I keep mentioning? It is the few people who are allowed to not be equal in this complete freak show of an equal society. They are the ones who need to be normal or above average to keep others inline. Therefore this society is not equal, but then again, no society is perfect.
